Opinions? I'll add my 2p when I've time. I'm a big fan of Oblivion so thought it would be more of the same. I have to say I didn't get F3 at the start and wasn't overly impressed but after I killed a few raiders and got some ammo I have sank my teeth into it and really enjoying it. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the main story after more than 10 hours. This amazes me as I've played Obivion for much long and don't seem anywhere near completing it. I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by Obvl because of all the stuff you can do (create spells etc) which I just try and avoid and go for the simple life. In F3 it doesn't seem that complex. I just use my weapons! You can create items using the work benches if you have the correct parts but I am yet to do this (without a great loss to the game). There is a lot of open space in the gameworld when you are in the rural parts but in the cities you are pretty much on a linear path as there is inaccessable rubble blocking many streets. - This forces you to battle it out instead of avoiding enemies. It is sometimes not obvious where to go when in complex buildings as your map is 2D and your target may be above or below you. Once you get to grips with the game it is quite easy not to die. Once you have found a location on the map you can fast travel which means if you're about dead you can fast travel back to a bed and sleep to restore your health then fast travel back to continue the fight. Seems like cheating a bit to me. Anyway...I have to go!

Only outside of combat can you quick travel. Quick travel is a matter for contention with some of the Bethseda followers I've spoken to. I like it, others don't.

I think in most respects you're right. I think I've enjoyed F3 so far. Mission wise I think F3 is smaller. Oblivion seems to have added more content although not anywhere as much as Morrowind. I didn't like F3 initially. However, once I found a _base_ of operations and had gone up a couple of levels I started to see the effect of my skill and weapon upgrades. I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by Obvl because of all the stuff you can do (create spells etc) which I just try and avoid and go for the simple life. There is quite a lot to do and a most of that fun. That's why I played several different class types. I'm not sure how easy F3 would be as say, purely a melee class. It might be fun to try though. In F3 it doesn't seem that complex. I just use my weapons! You can create items using the work benches if you have the correct parts but I am yet to do this (without a great loss to the game). Unfortunately there are only about five schematics to play with. The weapons however are rather good fun to use and the Rock-it Launcher is a really clever idea and very effective. The problem with foes above or below can be an irritance but only a minor one. On the whole the map system seems to work quiet well. As for the terrain outside, I like it. I agree with yahtzee's point that what is there is good fun it could do with being spread a little more thickly throughout the landscape. Once you get to grips with the game it is quite easy not to die. Once you have found a location on the map you can fast travel which means if you're about dead you can fast travel back to a bed and sleep to restore your health then fast travel back to continue the fight. Max small guns early on, high STR for carrying loot back, High AGI for VAC shots (1 shot kills in VACS), very fun so far   Dave

The first character we played was focused mostly on agility. Later you get a perk which allows you to carry more which offsets the need for the strength which is only much use if you're to be using melee weapons. But who'd bring a knife to a gunfight? Spoiler ===== If tips are the order of the day then if you're happy to play a character without scrupals as I am then lockpicking, science and small weapons are the order of the day. Energy weapons also come into their own much later. Well, the plasma does. The laser is a big pile of rubbish. Science lets you hack the many PC's you encounter which reward you with XP greater than that you would recieve for a kill. Lockpicking also rewards you with XP so it is most likely possible to go through large swathes of the game without actually killing anyone although why you would want to do that in a post-apocolyptic world with no laws and a geordie with a beef is beyond me. Pass me that grenade would you, old chap?
