You must be new around here! New to VMS. Only been supporting it for 27 years so I guess I'm new compared to some. Jeff

H VLEMS Wrote: Wouldn't Kermit be useful in this situation? There used to be a an IP stack that was free but I doubt it is still available. DECnet support outside DEC products is limited. There is a working opensource DECnet kit for Linux though. Hans I'm not sure I understand how Kermit could possibly intercept calls from the fortran code to decnet and put them on the windows machine. There is a free IP stack

Does anyone have an answer to my original two questions? If those two are your only options then you're probably SOL.  See my comment two lines above about the cost, then decided whether you should be searching for some other solution than the two about which you were asking.

I started business programming porting main_frame_ applications to RSTS/e on PDP-11's. Then moved to Vax, then Alpha and now Itanium. The PC support was always the guys who played with the toys while we kept the business running. I basically went from a VT terminal to Pro350 to a Vax Station then to an Alpha Station. I am forced to use Windows 2000 (now XP) at one site but now use Linux for home and all other customers. My wife went the same route but took a left turn (she's left handed, so for her it was the right turn) and is now a Mac user. Although I did a lot of Visual Basic work, it never really panned out as what was really needed is now done with either Web or Java/Swing front ends. So I didn't pay a lot of attention to the I need MY data on MY PC! (whether it makes sense or not) era. Jeff
