(Just as there should be huge faction hits for good clerics who heal evil races. Etc.) Not going to see it in Everquest, because the designers don't give a damn. Unfortunately. You make some good points. This is far from one of them. How can tolerating the suffering of another, regardless of race, be considered a good act? You so rigidly hold to the doctrine of good versus evil that you fail to comprehend the moral distinctions between the two. Having trouble finding forest with all those damn trees in the way? Mozmonar Pickwick Semi-retired 38th Wizard Brell And here we see another paradox about roleplaying (and EQ`s system) One person wants to not heal an evil race, the other thinks that is narrow-minded and thinks the good cleric should heal all regardless of race or belief (humanistic approach i guess) Neither person is wrong, its how you roleplay it that matters, not the ethos or moral ethics surrounding the decision. When you apply real life ethics/morals to a roleplay situation (esp fantasy D&D settings) and then analyse your choices you will always have a difference of opinion on what each individual thinks is right and wrong. However, for true roleplay you have to leave behind all this baggage and immerse yourself into your own character and the surrounding environment, and then play out all subsequent actions/choices and live by them (and others in character reactions to you).....something which is hard to do in EQ i admit, but thats another thread. Thus, if p_layer_ A wants to not heal all Dark or evil race characters, that is their decision, and does not in any way reflect what they think or do in real life or how they act or judge out of character. There again, if p_layer_ B wants to heal everyone no matter what their creed in-game, then again, this by no way means they are a better person in real life....IT IS AN IN-CHARACTER DECISION and should be roleplayed as such in-game. So, try not to fall into the trap of judging peoples IN-CHARACTER wishes and actions by real life standards.....remember its a GAME, not the real world (tm). *scuttles off unsure whether that made any sense*

The game is not what he expected, so he's not going to play it anymore.  Who can blame him?  You can make all the excuses and give him all the explanations why he's wrong to dislike the game, but it's not going to change the basic fact:  The box does not describe the game.  It's still a fun game, but the box is a lie. I'm not trying to convince him to play; just arguing that Verant isn't an evil company that doesn't care. Calling the box a lie goes way to far, unless you're talking about the number continents it lists, heh heh. Mark Asher

Speaking as someone who has been guardhunting, it is not a choice that I take lightly. Unfortunately, as has been pointed out by many times already, there are really almost no places to play at prime hours. Guardkilling is rampant, and I dinna think it has a lot to do with whether people would like to roleplay or not. People have the opportunity to play at prime hours at level 40-50 get the chance to: a) wait on lists for 3+ hours to get into SolB/LGuk b) drown in Kedge Keep and lose their level c) go kill guards..whichever guards arent camped at the    time..because Grobb is just one big dungeon on most    servers. d) go kill giants/spectres, but they're camped too e) go on a plane run, provided you can collect 25 of your    closest friends and don't mind dying and losing yet    more levels. f) go fish, log out and visit the outside world. Yes, gnomes should not be killing other gnomes (unless they were 'bad' gnomes like Meldreth), nor should probably any good aligned race/class. The bottom line is, if you're trying to advance/keep up with your clique of online friends, a lot of times there is *no* other option. I never thought I'd have occasion to side with the guardkillers, but lets face it. Our servers are very overcrowded. Even if they had less people on them, the bottom line is that without guardkilling, I do not think the servers are built to handle more than 150 post 45 p_layer_s. Since there are considerably more than that on any established server, well... do the math. These people need someplace to play, and there are more of them every day. Yes... EXACTLY and very well put.  You notice how it's IMPOSSIBLE for anyone in this game to accept the fact that you're playing evil?  If you just sit there and watch a good race die, he will come back and call you an asshole (an out-of-character asshole).  And if you explain that you're a dark elf that would rather see all high elves die, they'll say BULLSHIT, you can't use roleplaying as an excuse to cover up the fact that you're an asshole!!  Does anyone else see the irony in this? No matter what you do, no one will believe you when you say that you're roleplaying evil.  They'll ALWAYS take it as an out-of-character action.   If I am playing an evil dark elf there is no way in hell I'm helping a high elf, unless it means doing so to save my own ass.  Evil is greedy/shifty this way.  Most are oppertunists that will stab their own brother in the back if it means gains for themselves.  But alas, no one will ever believe you, and will always think that you (a person in front of a computer) is solely out to piss off them (another person in front of a computer).  They never see it for what it's suppose to be, a dark elf refusing to help his mortal enemy a high elf. The more and more that I see stuff like this happening makes me wish they'd just take the evil races out of the game altogether... I mean, why not, if   you're not allowed to be evil anyway?  I mean, sure you're allowed to act evil... but NO ONE ever believes you or accepts it as an excuse as to why you didn't help them.  Just further proving to me that this is no longer a roleplaying game.

I mean, the box does describe this as a 3D massively multip_layer_ on-line fantasy role-playing game . So I don't think roleplaying is exactly out-of-line here
My box also describes five continents and your point?  That Verant is loose with the facts? Hmmm, do any of you realize that some guard killing is _role playing_?  My evil characters are not there yet, but I have killed those nasty inky guards a few times and did shouts that newbies could bring trains to my party.  I'm sure when my troll SK gets high enough level, a few good guards are going down also.  Now druids hunting down dwarves, gnomes and humans (especially the tree hugging Qeynos crowd) has nothing to do with role playing, but that is what you are bitching about anyway.
